This class will be taught online and you can take part from the comfort of your own home. The RCS campus is open with a limited capacity for degree students only to ensure a safe learning environment for all.

Shakespeare wrote almost 40 plays and his writing has influenced and impacted on thousands more throughout history. Learning how to perform Shakespeare is a key component of the BA Acting programme at RCS and a foundation skill required of any actor.

This two-day online course for people age 16+ will be led by one of the Royal Conservatoire’s expert tutors with years of experience performing and directing the Bard’s work.

This open access course is suitable for training, professional and amateur actors who wish to:

  • become acquainted with the essentials of textual analysis
  • learn how to explore heightened text, verse-speaking and imagery
  • explore techniques which can enhance character development and story-telling
  • gain an understanding of how to embody the voice and explore physicality in the performance of classical texts

The course explores acting, movement and voice in relation to the analysis, rehearsal and performance of works by Shakespeare.
