This 5-week online for people age 16+ course introduces the specialist skills and techniques required when acting for camera, and aims to increase your confidence and understanding of the whole process.

The course will be a mixture of exploring acting techniques and covering the technicalities of working in front of a camera. You will work with a variety of contrasting texts, creating and developing realistic characters as well as looking at how to approach the more technical aspects of acting for camera. There will be opportunities to receive specific feedback on your work.

The course involves practical exercises designed to challenge and stretch you in a creative and supportive environment. You willexplore the art of character development and look at ways in which you can keep the inner life of characters fresh whilst dealing with the technical demands of acting to camera.

Throughout the course you will cover:

  • how to analyse film and TV scripts and use information gathered to create characters
  • how to create and develop believable characters for screen
  • technical tips for self shooting
  • how to create a self-tape
  • commonly used film and TV jargon

The course will conclude with you filming a short monologue or duologue that you have developed over the five weeks.
